Dawsons up for sale
Musical equipment retailer Dawsons, which is owned by entrepreneur David Briggs, has been put up for sale.
The business is headquartered at its Warrington outlet but has nine shops in total including Manchester, Stockport, Chester, Liverpool, Basingstoke, Reading, Bangor and Liverpool.
Dawsons was set up in 1899 and employs 86 staff, increased pre-tax profits to £411,000 on the back of a 5 per cent increase in sales to £14m. Briggs, who also owns Bolton-based confectionery company Maxilin Crawford Group, was also recently appointed as Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire by the Queen in March, and has previously been involved in campaigns against a proposed single European currency.
Warrington-based corporate financier Dow Schofield Watts has secured a mandate to sell the firm.
