Co-op wins award for bees campaign
The Co-operative Group’s in-house PR team has won an award for its campaign on behalf of honeybees.
The Plan Bee campaign won the corporate social responsibility category at the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) Awards in London.
Launched in January last year, the £475,000 campaign aims to raise awareness of honeybee decline, fund research, and encourage people to help bees and plant bee-friendly wildflowers.
The CIPR judges said: “Everyone knows the Co-operative's commitment to good husbandry and sustainable best practice, but the practical way in which it committed itself to a three-year campaign to promote the keeping of bees deserves special attention.
“As a result of its public awareness initiatives about the importance of bees to the UK economy, and assisting beekeepers by providing more land on its farms for hives, there will be another 3 million bees in the Manchester area this year, thanks to Plan Bee.”
Russ Brady, head of group public relations at The Co-operative Group, said: “Winning this prestigious award in the face of such major competition is testimony to strength and substance of the Plan B campaign. It also reflects well upon the inventiveness and creativity of The Co-operative's In-house PR and Social Goals teams in bringing the matter to attention of so many people."
