Middleton projection firm wins £237,000 grant
Middleton-based Digital Projection has been awarded a grant of £237,762 from the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) to develop an LED-based projector that that is brighter than existing equipment.
The firm, which was set up in 1996, said it wanted to use the money to increase the quality of LED-illuminated products by more than doubling their present levels of light output, which would increase the reliability and lifespan of the product and cut the costs associated with operating such equipment.
“I’m pleased that we’ve been able to provide support to such an innovative company that is not only technologically forward thinking, but also looking at environmentally-friendly methods of creating high-tech products,” said NWDA chief executive, Steven Broomhead.
The firm said that the grant would allow it to safeguard an unspecified number of jobs as well as creating a number of new posts by 2013. It plans to sell the new product in Asia and the US.
The firm’s director of product development, Dermot Quinn, said: “This grant acts as a catalyst to help us to explore and take advantage of new and emerging solid state light sources. This will enable new applications of our projection technology at the same time as reducing the environmental impact of high brightness video projection.”
