Gentronix secures three-year Glaxo deal
By Michael Fahy
Manchester-based university spin-out Gentronix has secured a three-year agreement with GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) to provide its GreenScreen HC and BlueScreen HC genotoxicity assays for use by GSK in genotoxicity screening.
The firm, which has developed a human cell-based assay technology which gives an indication whether or not a drug compound could damage genetic or cell structures, already had an agreement in place with the pharma giant from March 2009, but the new deal extends the existing relationship between the firms.
GSK was already using Greenscreen but will also now use its Bluescreen HC product – a Luciferase based assay that detects any damage to a genetic structure more quickly and precisely using very low quantities of a new compound.
John Nicholson, CEO and Chairman of Gentronix said “we are delighted to announce this further agreement with GSK,” said Gentronix chairman John Nicholson. “It provides additional validation for our technology and provides an opportunity for our customers to take advantage of the benefits of early liability screening for more cost effective drug discovery and development.”
