Sebden shows steel with resilient performance

Altrincham-based steel supplier Sebden Group recorded a small drop in profits for the year to April 30, 2009, but directors said they were “satisfied” with the firm’s performance.

Pre-tax profits dropped to £1.7m from £1.95m in 2008 and turnover decreased to £80.5m, compared to £92m the previous year. Net assets stood at £3.8m, down slightly from £4m in 2008.

The number of employees reduced to 209 from 228 and the company’s wage bill also decreased, to £6.7m from £7m in 2008. Directors’ emoluments stood at £1.27m, down from £1.32m a year earlier. No dividends were paid during the year.
