Cartwright doubles up for Asda
By Michael Fahy
Supermarket giant Asda has just taken its second delivery of trailers from Altrincham-based truck body maker Cartwright Group.
Asda has taken on another 68 aerodynamic Cheetah double-deck trailers from family-owned firm, following its purchase last November of 173 Cheetah trailers.
The firm said that the trailers have been built to a new specification that will allow Asda to deliver food to its network of stores more effectively.
“We chose Cartwright because they were able to offer a number of specification options which were key for this project,” said Asda's network transport manager, Chris Hall. “The majority of previous double-deck purchases have been for internal depot–depot trunking, whereas this was our first significant step into utilising this fleet within our store operations.
Hall also said that it had managed to lower carbon emissions from its distribution fleet by 40 per cent, citing the use of the new aerodynamic trailers as a “significant enabler”.
