Wigan Warriors opens Grand Arcade club shop

By Simon Binns

Wigan Warriors rugby league football club is opening of a new club shop in the Grand Arcade shopping centre in Wigan town centre.

The brand new outlet will open on Wednesday December 9 and will be positioned on the ground floor of the centre opposite Next.

The club has agreed an initial six-month lease and the outlet will replace the current Warriors World shop in Hilton Street, which will remain open until Tuesday.

The new store will be a trial period for the club and if successful, it will look to extend the term of the lease. The store will sell a wide range of Warriors Official merchandise including replica kit and training wear. The Club Lotto Office will remain on Hilton Street.

Mick Hogan, Wigan Warriors chief executive, said: “The Grand Arcade is at the heart of the town’s shopping area and provides an excellent location. In the lead up to Christmas this is ideal timing to relocate our club shop and we hope to attract existing loyal supporters as well as more passing trade.

“This is the next stage in our retail strategy. In the last year we have appointed a new head of retail, installed a fully integrated EPOS system, launched a new online store, established a partnership with Asda and doubled the range of items we sell.”

The Grand Arcade, owned by Modus Ventures, is currently in administration and Jersey-based fund Ciref Plc is in negotiations to buy the centre, should an agreement be reached with the scheme’s major lender, Aviva.
