Hopes of quick exit from administration for Stockport County
Administrators running football club Stockport County are urging would-be bidders to come forward with proposals so that the club can be sold “as quickly as possible”.
John Titley and Paul Reeves, directors at Bury-based insolvency firm Leonard Curtis, issued a statement in which they revealed that a meeting took place earlier this week between representatives of the Football League, Premier Rugby, Stockport County and Sale Sharks.
The statement added: “The meeting was very productive in that a number of issues that are key to us being able to conclude a sale were discussed and a way forward agreed.
“We are now requesting that the interested parties finalise their financial proposals to enable us to conclude a sale of the club and exit from administration as quickly as possible.”
The administrators, who have been running Stockport County Association Football Club Ltd since April 30, got close to selling the club to a consortium led by former Manchester City footballer Jim Melrose, but the deal fell apart when the bidders failed to reach agreement with the Football League on a number of issues.
The bidders have remained in negotiations with the Football League, administrators and with Edgeley Park stadium owner Cheshire Sport Promotions Ltd - a company controlled by Sale Sharks proprietor Brian Kennedy.
