Digital switchover boost John Lewis sales at Trafford Centre and Cheadle

By James Chapelard

The North West digital switchover has boosted sales of consumer electronics at John Lewis' Trafford Centre and Cheadle stores.

Trafford was the best performing store in the country with total sales up 23.9 per cent in the week to November 7, according to figures released today.

Cheadle was also in the top five best performing stores in the group with sales up 15.2 per cent in the week compared to the same period last year. Sales across all stores were up 13.2 per cent in the period compared to last year.

A John Lewis spokesman said: “Nine branches achieved double figures, with the top five being Trafford, Bluewater, Solihull, Oxford Street and Cheadle. Trafford and Cheadle led the charge on consumer electronics with a following wind from the digital switchover in the area, while Bluewater continues to make the most of its recent refurbishment with a consistent set of results across the board, and particularly strong on children's related merchandise.”
