Companies given chance to meet potential student recruits

Manchester Digital and Manchester Metropolitan University Business School is looking for companies to take part in an informal professional development day for students.

It hopes the free event, from 12noon to 5pm on November 12, will encourage more graduates to stay on and get their first jobs in the city.

The event was set up because of fears that too many qualified graduates leave to take up posts in London and the South East because of a belief that work and career prospects here are inferior.

Manchester Digital said on its website: “We need companies and organisations to make this work, so commitment means coming and talking with students. This is pretty much like a beauty contest, and although you may not have an obvious opportunity currently, you may see students that are so outstanding, you’ll want to find something for them.

“Also, it gives students a chance to see you, and make their minds up about you, the sector and above all, Manchester and the North West. Students may well be fielding CVs, and coming with many questions, so think what it is you want from the day.

Students of marketing, enterprise, digital marketing, digital creative, graphic design, web development, hardware/network engineering, public relations, general business IT, advertising and general business from MMU, Manchester and Salford are being invited as are those from Manchester College.

Companies interested in participating are asked to contact David Bird on d.bird@mmu.ac.uk or 0161 247 4603 by 1 November.
