Salford uni gets £8m for Media City move

By Richard Morris

The University of Salford has been awarded £8m from the government to help with its move to Media City.

The grant from the Higher Education Funding Council for England’s strategic development fund will be used to create a 103,000 sq ft facility over four floors in the new development at Salford Quays. The university will occupy a waterside location next to the BBC offices which is due to be completed in 2011.

Facilities at the new building will include broadcast and digital media zones, a virtual laboratory and a digital performance space. About £6m of the grant money will be used to assist in funding the construction and IT costs and the remaining £2m will contribute to the purchase of specialist and technical equipment.
