BJL to lose out as Bradford & Bingley disappears

By Richard Morris

Manchester-based advertising agency BJL is likely to lose a customer as a result of Santander’s decision to rebrand its Bradford & Bingley, Abbey and Alliance & Leicester branches.

BJL has held Bradford & Bingley’s multi-million pound advertising account for around four years. The Spanish bank bought the savings business of the Bradford-based society last September, throwing the unit's future relationship with the agency into doubt.

Yesterday Santander announced plans to bring its 338 Bradford & Bingley branches completely under the group brand by the end of 2010.

BJL’s business development manager Charlotte Thompson told Crain’s the agency had worked on integrating the group name and logo into Bradford & Bingley’s advertising but beyond this it had “no live briefs from Santander”, she said.
