Website charges ex-Woolworths workers to advertise themselves

The shopworkers union USDAW is urging former Woolworths employees to avoid a website set up by a Cheshire company which is offering to help them find work.

Redundant workers are asked for a £25 registration fee to add their details to www.woolworthsstaff.co.uk for a period of six months.

The site was set up on January 1 by the Rubber Tree Ant Company, based at Booths Hall, Booths Park in Knutsford.

USDAW said it would not recommend its members to use the site, pointing out that Job Centres offer a similar service for free.

Rubber Tree Ant said it was trying to save firms the cost of job advertisements and was asking users of the site to reimburse the registration fee to any workers they take on.

No profiles can be seen on the website as yet, but a note on the home page says listing pages are currently being formatted prior to launch.
