Co-working area set up at Manchester Science Park
By Joanne Birtwistle
A permanent shared working space is to open at Manchester Science Park to encourage business collaboration.
Fly the Coop co-operative is being set up to lease space at the science park, which will be used as a dedicated co-working office.
“Co-working is aimed at people who are working at home as it provides the freedom they have at their home base while allowing social interaction with other like-minded people,” said Ben Gibbs, an associate at IT company Liquid Bronze based on the science park, who is involved in setting up the co-operative.
Added Gibbs: “The emphasis is on collaboration and that can be anything from sharing business tips to working together on a web product or service.”
The space will have room for 10 desks, which will be available to pre-book online on an hourly or daily basis. Gibbs said the long-term plan is to set up several co-working locations in the city centre.
“The science park location would be very IT and science centric whereas a location in the Northern Quarter could focus on design and a space close to or within a theatre could develop around the arts industry,” he said.
