Nexus picks divorce lawyer to head up Knutsford office

By Michael Fahy

Manchester-based law firm Nexus has become the latest firm to target south Manchester as a hunting ground for potential divorce cases.

The firm has recruited Graham Walker — a former partner at Horwich Farrelly — to head the firm’s new office in Knutsford.

Walker is best known for a ground-breaking divorce case in 2001 which established the principle that, in long-standing marriages, the partner’s business interests as well as their personal finances, should be taken into account in determining settlements. A “hugely significant” change to divorce law, according to the firm.

In January, Crain’s reported that a number of divorce and family law specialists were opening offices in the area to cater to potential divorcees. Pannone opened an office at Alderley Edge last September and Harrogate-based divorce lawyer Marilyn Stowe opened the second office of her Stowe Family Law practice in Altrincham in April.
